Bloatware?

Windows Vista, the next Operating System from Microsoft will require a whopping 15 GB of free hard drive space to install. Here's a nice little graph of space requirements for various versions of Windows.

Raw Data (I'm not sure what is causing the extra space...apologies):

Win 95 55 MB
Win NT 110 MB
Win 2000 650 MB
Win XP 1500 MB
2003 server 2500 MB
Windows Vista 15000 MB

But why? Is it going to be so much better? Why is it so much bigger?

I was wondering the same thing. I'm no Mac-Head, but I'm sure we'd agree MacOS is more stable than anything Bill Gates has given us since he moved out of parent's garage. It uses 3-4 GB of space.

I'm told Linux uses about 500MB to 1GB depending on options.

That leads to the question - are more the increased requirements good or bad?
